The duo De Alpenzusjes was founded in 1980 with Carla Janssen Langendijk and Hanny Tholen as members. Tholen only stayed with the group for two years, after which her position was taken over by various other singers. Since mid-2007 this place has been filled by Edith Verboeket.
In 2009 De Alpenzusjes stopped making music definitively. Since 2010 a completely new duo has been performing again under the name De Alpenzusjes. The traditional Tyrolean schlagermusic also left the duo behind. At the start of 2011, the new duo released their carnival album "Forward, Back". The original member Carla Janssen Langendijk has given permission for the use of the name De Alpenzusjes.
