The Pre Soak
Pre soaking your beans overnight reduces the cooking time, and also prevents your beans from cracking. Some say even soaking 3 hours helps. Another benefit from soaking is a reduction by 60% of the complex sugars which cause gas. You can read more about this here.
If you soak the beans overnight the cooking time is much less and the beans stay intact better. Rinse the beans 3 times or so till the water runs clear. if you have soaked them and add to the crockpot or soup pot. Add the Bohnenkraut. |
Add the minced onion flakes or the diced onion.
Add the chicken stock and meat if you want and simmer for 4 hours. It is best not to add the salt or Chicken Bouillion powder until after the beans are cooked. It will slow down the cooking.

To make the German Style Baked Beans |
Take the 2 cans of B M baked beans or 4 cups of your basic Baked White Beans. (Weiss Bohnen brate ) If you are using the canned use the less amount of molasses and brown sugar. Add the sauerkraut, onions and apples or apple sauce and the seasonings. |
Simmer for an hour and a half. Adjust the flavors. If you need it a little sweeter add some sugar and if it is too sweet add a teaspoon or 2 of apple cider vinegar. |
The baked beans with hot dogs, this tastes really nice, the sauerkraut gives it great texture and
the apples are a great contrast to the tart flavors.
Here is an alternative way to do the beans. I took the basic baked white beans (Weiss Bohnen braten)
added roast beef, and potatoes.
