Directions:
Gather your ingredients and measure them out.
Traditionally Germans use Palmin and they call it Kokosfett
If you can substitute coconut oil. In this recipe I used Spectrum Organic Coconut Oil.
It use to be that coconut oil was considered not good for you because of the saturated fat.
Now they realize that this is not true, read more here about about coconut oil.
Line your loaf pan to make it easier to get out. Oil the loaf pan and and line it with
plastic wrap or wax paper. This is a 7" by 4"loaf pan. If it is much larger than this the
Kalter Hund won't be very tall. You may want to double the recipe if you have a large
loaf pan.
Melt the coconut oil carefully, don't get it to hot. I used a double boiler set up. |
Add all the rest of the ingredients, except of course the cookies and blend well,
Cook over heat for a good 2 min. till it thickens up. |
Put a layer of the mix on the bottom of the pan
|
Add a layer of cookies. Depending on your pan you may need to cut a cookie to cover. |
Put a layer of chocolate over the top and then a layer of cookies. Keep going till the cookies are all used. Cover and chill for 4 hours or overnight. |
Remove from the pan and make sure all the plastic wrap gets removed. Then I smooth the top with a knife that I put a little hot water on. |
Slice the Kalter Hund in slices, approximately 1/ 4 -1/2 inch. This will make 8-10 servings of 2 thin slices
