This was how my grandma kept her recipes.
We treasure these aged 3x5 card recipes.

8 ounces baby shrimp (285 g)
or 2-4 oz cans of baby shrimp
2 hard boiled eggs chopped
1/4 cup diced pickles
1 tablespoon very finely minced red onion (about 15 g)
1/2 cup Miracle Whip. ( Mayonnaise works well also)
1 tsp mustard. (your choice of style)
½ -1 teaspoon salt (2–3 g), or to taste
Freshly ground black pepper
2 cups loose packed shredded crisp lettuce (iceberg is best)

Gather your ingredients for the salad.
Chop the eggs, pickles small dice, and mince the onion.
 |
Drain the shrimp or thaw and drain if you buy frozen,
Make sure the shrimp is not too wet. |
This is how I shred the lettuce.
Mix all the ingredients together with the Miracle Whip or Mayonnaise and mustard.
Season with salt and pepper.
If you are going to make this ahead of time, I leave the shredded lettuce separate and just mix it in at the last.
This makes an elegent luncheon dish, and goes well with tomatoes.
It also works well stuffed in a nice beefsteak tomato.
Just cut the tomato in wedges but don't go all the way down,
You can then spread it out like a flower and put the salad in the center.

Biography of my grandma
Emma Block
From Germany with Love tells the story of my grandma, Emma Block, growing up in a little town in Baden/ Würtemberg, Germany near Heidelberg named Steinsfurt. Then at the age of 15 immigrating to the United States, taking a train with one of her sisters and brothers to Hamburg and sailing the Atlantic with other hope filled Germans wanting to make a life in the "New World". It was not easy but with good values learned in her German upbringing made a full life, had a wonderful family with lots of fun and celebration including the great German meals.
