German Fried Cabbage and Potatoes 
         
        Ingredients:
        4 strips bacon, diced
          1 tablespoon brown sugar 
          1/2 cup chopped onion
          1/2 cup chopped apple
          2 medium red or Yukon style potatoes peeled, and cut in quarters. 
          1 and 1/2 pounds green cabbage, chopped or shredded 
          2 teaspoons Caraway seed, (optional) 
          1 cup beef or other stock
          3 tablespoons dry white wine
          2 tablespoons cider or wine vinegar, to taste 
          Salt
          Freshly ground black pepper
        Directions:
        In a very large frying pan over medium heat, brown bacon.
          Add sugar and stir until melted.
          Add onion and apple and simmer a few minutes.
          Stir in cabbage and caraway seeds thoroughly; pour in stock.
          Cover and simmer 30 minutes 
          Add potatoes and cook another 30 minutes 
          Just before serving, stir in wine and vinegar to taste.
          Add salt and pepper as desired.
