Ingredients:

Rst Beef or Steak ( about 1/2 lb)
Potatoes cooked (about 2-3 cups)
1/2 cup chopped Onions
1 tablespoon Black Pepper
1 Egg
1/2 cup Dill Pickles chopped (optional)

Oil for Frying:
2 tablespoons Oil
2 tablespoons Butter for Frying
(This depends on how much you make)

This is a very flexible recipe using what you have on hand. The measurements are not totally important,
if your using all cooked potatoes you probably don't need some flour or oatmeal to hold it together.

You can test it out and make a patty and see how it holds together.

I really like pickles so I add about 1/2 a cup of chopped to the mix.

Make small patties and fry them in oil and butter.

 

Brown on the first side, turn and brown the other side, then they will be done.

In America we would serve these likely with tomato catsup. However, like in Germany, mustard, horseradish or even Curry Catsup would be a good choice.

Biography of my grandma
Emma Block
From Germany with Love tells the story of my grandma, Emma Block, growing up in a little town in Baden/ Würtemberg, Germany near Heidelberg named Steinsfurt. Then at the age of 15 immigrating to the United States, taking a train with one of her sisters and brothers to Hamburg and sailing the Atlantic with other hope filled Germans wanting to make a life in the "New World". It was not easy but with good values learned in her German upbringing made a full life, had a wonderful family with lots of fun and celebration including the great German meals.
